Gerund adalah kata kerja yang berakhiran -ing yang berfungsi sebagai kata benda. Berikut adalah beberapa fungsi gerund dan penerapannya dalam kalimat.

1. GERUND AS SUBJECT (GERUND SEBAGAI SUBYEK KALIMAT)
Reading is my hobby
Swimming is my hobby
Riding motorcycle is my hobby
Marketing is the best
Smoking is a bad habit

2. GERUND AS OBJECT (GERUND SEBAGAI OBYEK KALIMAT)
My hobby is reading
His hobby is swimming
We like speaking English
The job of a secretary is replying letter

3. GERUND AFTER POSSESIVE ADJECTIVES (SETELAH KATA GANTI KEPEMILIKAN): My, your, his, her, our

4. GERUND AFTER PREPOSITIONS (SETELAH KATA DEPAN): after, before, at, on, in, for, about, with, of

5. GERUND AFTER CERTAIN VERBS (SETELAH KATA KERJA TERTENTU)
